As the sun’s visible path thru the sky becomes lower and shorter, and a winter blues is whistled by the northern winds, it’s up to our inner Sun to step up.
Perhaps friends sitting across the table, or across the oceans of time and space, reflect that inner Sun back to us. When, in the words of Longfellow, we “fan the living embers on the hearthstone of our heart!”
We had a wonderful warm thanksgiving graciously hosted by Natasha’s niece, and it reminded me about the importance of the tribe, in this case connecting with the side of the family I barely knew. This season of abundance and appreciation we seem to get back more of what we already appreciate. We get more light for the light we shine. We receive more of what we focus on.
So is it a good time to venture out of our comfort zone? The tropical Sun currently in Sagittarius, one of the most restless, visionary and enthusiastic signs, will likely agree. Streets are already lit up for Christmas, and there are more sleighs and reindeers than actual cars. A strong Sagittarius signature is present in all of it, starting with the Jolly Santa himself. Who else would have enough excitement and endurance to deliver presents to all kinds of kids across the globe, or at least all over English speaking world.

In this drawing by Nataliya Vsevolodskaya for our “Old Stars, New Light” book the Tower is being chiseled away by the rays of the sun. It’s for the chapter where the meaning of The Tower card is discussed.
In Tarot the Tower is feared for the crisis it sometimes indicates. Mainly it’s our own fear of change that fuels this reputation, but the change can be scary. Whatever our version of Tower happens to be, it likely has served us well for a while. It was the Fort that contributed to our identity, provided security, defended our vulnerability and allowed us to show a tougher face to the world. But at some point the towers become cages, and one has to get out.
More than anything, the crumbling Tower is about a breakthrough. Taking a decisive empowering action. But what often makes it possible is that encouraging nurturing light of the sun.
